Definitions
The following definitions help distinguish the difference between information and data:
INFORMATION –
|
the output of computer systems, published for human users. Once created it is fixed content. |
| DATA – |
computer content used by computer systems to create information. |
COMPUTER SYSTEMS –
|
programs that apply logic, formulas, and formatting to create information from data. |
FIXED CONTENT –
|
read-only, static content that represents information snap-shots at a given point in time. |
| WISELY – |
shrewdly, intelligently, astutely, cleverly, prudently, sensibly, judiciously. |
YOUR INFORMATION –
|
information from any source for which you are responsible. Sources might include output from your computer systems (e.g. Accounting, Payroll, Excel, Word, Cognos, SAP, and internally created systems) and output from other sources (e.g. Regulators, Banks, Insurance Companies, Dealers, Suppliers, Customers, Agents). In contrast, the Internet
or Wikipedia are not your information unless you copy and paste to a business letter or report. |
OCIE® –
